Make a pumpkin vase for Halloween

Here’s how you can make yourself a beautiful pumpkin vase in time for Halloween.

You will need:

- Pumpkin
- Cylindrical vase roughly the same height as your pumpkin
- Sharp knife
- Spoon
- Bowl
- Marker pen
- Red, orange, yellow and purple flowers

Making the vase:

  1. Put the vase on top of your pumpkin and draw around the base.
  2. With a sharp knife cut along the line you’ve drawn.
  3. Hollow out the pumpkin. *Put the scooped out centre in to the bowl and save for later.
  4. Slide the vase inside the pumpkin. If it’s the same height as the pumpkin or slightly higher, then the hole you made will hold it in place.
  5. Make sure the vase is stable in the pumpkin, then fill with water and flower food.
  6. Add red, orange, yellow and purple flowers of your choice.

You now have yourself a great Halloween table decoration!

*You can use the pumpkin pulp to make all sorts of delicious goodies like pumpkin pie or pumpkin soup.

Please post pictures of your pumpkin vases on the eflorist facebook page.

Flower arranging – alternative vases

flower arranging
If you’re lucky enough to have received fresh flowers or maybe even treated yourself to some, then we have some interesting alternative containers to vases for you.

Post war retro is in right now with a strong emphasis on home-made, rustic, shabby chic in interior design and accessories. If you’d like to try displaying your flowers in something slightly different or maybe just spread them a little bit further in smaller containers around the house, just see what you already have at home that might make an interesting alternative to a vase.

Here are some of our favourites:

1. A drinking glass, even a champagne flute for shorter, single flower stems
2. Water pitcher or jug
3. Confectionary jar
4. Watering can
5. Milk bottle
6. Jam jar
7. Beer bottle
8. Candle stick holder
9. Kettle
10. Wellington boot

Recylce, reuse and revamp things you already have around the house to make interesting, unique and very effective flower arrangements.

And if you dont like to see flower stems in clear vases or want to cover up a mark on a bottle or jar, then why not wrap a piece of material or wrapping paper around the vase and tie in place with ribbon or raffia.

Simple tricks with effective results that will make your flower arrangements one of a kind.
