Grandparent’s Day Flowers – Oct 2nd

Grandparent's Day FlowersGrandparent's Day Flowers
Originating from the USA, Grandparent’s Day primary purpose was to educate the younger generation about the valuable contribution their elders had made throughout history.

So whether you have a Grandparent or not, this Sunday is simply a day to show your appreciation and to give thanks to those special people in your life who have been your constant support and inspiration.

Sending flowers is a wonderful way to show someone how much you appreciate them and to give thanks for everything that they do no matter how big or small it may be. As Grandparent’s Day is not as widely celebrated as say Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, it will be a day you can be sure to surprise and delight someone special with an unexpected gift of flowers.

So how do you go about choosing an appropriate flower gift? Well, things to consider are of course their favourite flowers, colours and home décor, but just as important is their environment. For those with a garden you might like to consider a flowering plant, if they are living at home then pretty much anything goes but if they are in hospital or in shared accommodation of some kind, then you might be better off with an aqua-pack bouquet that doesn’t require a vase or a flower arrangement which will either come with a vase, container or flower basket.

Favourite Flowers of the Rich & Famous

Celebrity dressing room demands often make headlines when crazy or outlandish diva requests are revealed. Flowers are among the tamer ‘wants’ but what are the favourite flowers of the rich and famous?

Elton John is renowned for his penchant for floristry. Rumour has it he buys fresh flowers every day. In his dressing room however, it seems he just needs one large arrangement of colourful flowers but no carnations, lilies, chrysanthemums or daisies, thank you very much.

Paris Hilton particularly loves pink we know but it seems that carnations and roses are her favourite flowers.

Jennifer Lopez tops the list of diva demands, requesting that her dressing room is completely white with white furniture, drapes, candles, lilies and roses.

Katy Perry is another celebrity who likes fresh flowers every day, preferably white and purple hydrangeas, pink and white roses or peonies but most definitely not carnations.

Madonna on the other hand does not like hydrangeas as one fan recently found out.

The media hype this caused prompted the Queen of Pop to hit back with a tribute to the flower itself. Here is Madonna’s love letter to the humble hydrangea:

Flowers at London Fashion Week

SunflowersPink Carnations
London Fashion Week has come to a close with a profusion of flowers found to be hitting the catwalks in more ways than one.

Powerful, explosive floral prints of sunflowers, daisies, poppies and carnations were in abundance and hit the headlines big time when one designer even had wildflowers overflow from his model’s boots.

Carnations, not always the most popular of flowers, created the most gloriously colourful catwalk carpet this week. It was simply awash with yellow, white and pink carnations.

Make no mistake, girly, garden prints with roses and sequinned sunflowers on separates and dresses, oriental poppies on denim and French marigolds on shirts will be the big theme next year, with floral motifs, patterns and prints to be found simply everywhere. If you want to be “bang on trend” as Gok Wan would say or get ahead of the game, adorne your home with beautiful, bright sunflowers now. We have sunflower and carnation bouquets available online now.

Saying “sorry” with flowers

Flowers to say sorryFlowers to say sorry
Some people struggle to say sorry simply because it means admitting to having done something wrong. It’s the one word that is possibly the hardest to say at times.

A recent survey revealed the top 10 ways men say “sorry”:

1. Give flowers
2. Cook a romantic meal
3. Clean the house
4. Buy a gift
5. Buy jewellery
6. Make a personalised CD or playlist
7. Buy something they’ve been dropping hints about
8. Apologise with a message on the radio
9. Apologise on a social network site
10. Watch a movie you can’t stand but know they will love

In a world where to some actions speak louder than words and others the pen is mightier than the sword, it’s not surprising that sending flowers is the number one way of saying “sorry”. Sending your apologies with a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers and a gift card that simply says “I’m sorry!” can work wonders.

But don’t just send flowers to say sorry or every time you give that special person in your life flowers, they will think “ok, so what have you done now!?” Flowers ‘simply because’ are a wonderful way to show you care for and appreciate someone too.

Birthday Flowers

Birthday flowersBirthday flowers
Flowers are universally appreciated and are a popular choice when it comes to birthday presents. Although some may say that they have a limited shelf life, the instant lift a bouquet of flowers can give can be priceless. They can also be a great conversation piece ensuring that the sentiment is remembered for years to come.

But how do you go about choosing the right birthday flowers to send? Consider the character of the person you are picking the flowers for. What kind of personality do they have? For those that like to be the centre of attention or if you want to make a real statement, then you might want to think about sending flowers to their place of work for maximum impact. Furthermore, adding a balloon, box of chocolates and a vase would increase the wow factor and draw attention to the receiver.

Obviously the choice of flowers is important too, so consider not only the colour but the scent and variety. White lilies for example are more traditionally associated with funerals but pink lilies, if sending to a woman or roses to a partner would be perfect.

Although not necessarily the first thing you may think of to buy a man for his birthday, flowers and more particularly plants are becoming increasingly popular. Children too would appreciate Im sure a beautiful bright gift of flowers presented to them on their birthday, especially if it came with a cuddly toy, balloon or sweets.

If you struggle to know what would be the kind of flowers to send to a friend or relative then you might want to take inspiration from the birthstone of the month. The appropriate flower or bouquet of the month makes the choice much easier.
