Children In Need 2011 – Fundraising Day

Once again the eFlorist team did a fantastic job, pulling out all the stops and raising £567.45 for Children In Need.

With various goodies being sold and auctioned off in the office, there really was something for everyone and a great time was had by all.

Children In Need Fundraising at eFlorist
The Big Boardroom Sale
The Boardroom was awash with flowers of every variety plus bears, balloons, baskets, boxes, gift bags and vases, all available for staff to buy on the day. We also had flower arrangements brought in straight from the latest eFlorist product photo shoot that were auctioned off.

eFlorist School of Floristry
6 places were up for grabs for an in-house floristry school run by Sarah Clerke. Sarah will show the lucky winners how to make a Christmas door wreath or a Christmas table arrangement. As you can imagine, this auction was very popular with the girls in the office. I will of course be posting photos of the class and the resulting arrangements, so watch this space.

Car Washing Service
My personal favourite was the car washing service offered by our very own RGM Mr Ian Brett. Pushing the boundaries slightly further I managed to convince Ian to agree to wash and polish the winning bid’s car inside and out…in a fancy dress outfit of their choosing! Of course there was some negotiation involved there, so the winner had to agree to double their winning bid for the privilege. Luckily I won, so am encouraging suggestions as to what Mr Brett should wear. A subsequent blog enriched with photographic evidence will follow!

Baked Goodies
The Finance Team came up trumps baking scones, cakes and brownies and then on the day itself supplying the staff with a steady flow of hot bacon butties and sausage rolls, simply delicious. Susan Merritt kindly donated a homemade Christmas cake and Christmas pudding which did incredibly well at auction too.

Fancy Dress
Let’s be honest, eFlorist staff don’t need much encouragement to dress up. For Children In Need they had the option to make a donation to come in to work in fancy dress or face paying a penalty fee if they didn’t! Kerry came as one half of 118, Sarah sported her Taekwondo kit, Colin paraded around in his Mr ET pyjamas and Bruce was as a Security Guard for the day.

It’s a Wrap!
Flowers that were sold in the boardroom were made in to beautiful bouquets by Jenny Woods for a small additional fee. This was a real hit and kept Jenny very busy right up to the end of the day. Lorraine also offered her professional gift wrapping services, the results of which might even inspire an entirely new range.

We would like to say a big “thank you” to everyone who took part on the day. It really was great fun and we raised a fantastic amount for a truly worth-while cause.

eFlorist 2012 flower collections

As an online retailer we need to be ahead of the game, planning our ranges months in advance, which has its challenges as Im sure you can imagine. Predicting what will be en vougue this time next year can be tricky.

Over the last few weeks the eFlorist team have been working round the clock creating and photographing new flower collections for next year and beyond.

The product photography needs to adaptable for an array of different marketing mediums, which means that various departments within eFlorist HQ need their input at the start. Marketing for example will need the shots to work for posters, point of sale material and catalogues to name but a few. The online team will need ranges to be adaptable for banner graphics, email marketing campaigns, product promotions and those all important close ups.

Of course designing and creating the bouquets themselves is only part of the process. Setting the appropriate backdrop for the collection is also key and attention to detail is critical throughout the entire process. We need to ensure that the products not only look their absolute best on the day of the shoot but that our florists can easily recreate them for our customers time and time again.

Here is a sneaky peak at what you can expect to see from us next year. Of course we cant give too much away right now… all will be revealed in the fullness of time.

Our bouquet of the month has drawn inspiration from the birthstone Opal. Our expert designers and florists worked to create a delightful mix of germini, freesias, carnations and chrysanthemums to reflect the beauty of the gemstone. It’s a truly calming colour combination of creamy yellows and whites.

When sending flowers in October you need look no further than this flower bouquet. A perfect choice for: birthday flowers, anniversary flowers or even as a floral tribute. The October bouquet is beautifully versatile and as it’s an aquapack bouquet, it doesn’t even require a vase!

A Christmas scene is set complete with fireplace, Christmas tree and lights. The bouquets prepared in advance by our expert florist, wait to be photographed all the while more bouquets are made up – each one carefully documented along the way so we know what it consists of and what wrapping and ribbon to use. The documentation stage is critical as we need to ensure that each bouquet can be recreated by our florists up and down the country. A few finishing touches and tweaks by our designer perfects the bouquet, ready for its close up.

Christmas Flowers – Christmas Presents

Trying to find that perfect present for friends and family at Christmas can be particularly difficult. Maybe you have someone tricky to buy for who seems to have everything they need already or maybe they are just very particular in terms of what they like. Instead of spending hours trawling the high street looking for the ultimate gift, why not send or give Christmas Flowers this Christmas?

Presents of Christmas flowers are becoming increasingly more and more popular, with a wide selection of styles, colours and stems available that would really suit just about anyone. The important factor to consider of course is the person to whom you want to send your flowers to. So think about their favourite colours, flowers and even the kind of Christmas decorations they already have in their home. Traditional Christmas colour schemes are of course, white, gold, red, silver and green, but trends change and deep purples are in this year.

You don’t have to just stop at giving flowers either, whether you’ve chosen an arrangement, a bouquet or a basket of Christmas flowers, there are gifts you can add to make the present extra special. Chocolates, bears and hampers make great Christmas flower present additions.

Its not just friends and family you can buy for, Christmas is the perfect time to build bridges or get back in touch with someone, with peace and good will to all being the sentiment of the season. Of course to others it may just be a simple matter of the religious significance, with churches around the country being decorated with flowers for Christmas. Really, there are many reasons why it’s a great idea to send flowers at Christmas.

Grandparent’s Day Flowers – Oct 2nd

Grandparent's Day FlowersGrandparent's Day Flowers
Originating from the USA, Grandparent’s Day primary purpose was to educate the younger generation about the valuable contribution their elders had made throughout history.

So whether you have a Grandparent or not, this Sunday is simply a day to show your appreciation and to give thanks to those special people in your life who have been your constant support and inspiration.

Sending flowers is a wonderful way to show someone how much you appreciate them and to give thanks for everything that they do no matter how big or small it may be. As Grandparent’s Day is not as widely celebrated as say Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, it will be a day you can be sure to surprise and delight someone special with an unexpected gift of flowers.

So how do you go about choosing an appropriate flower gift? Well, things to consider are of course their favourite flowers, colours and home décor, but just as important is their environment. For those with a garden you might like to consider a flowering plant, if they are living at home then pretty much anything goes but if they are in hospital or in shared accommodation of some kind, then you might be better off with an aqua-pack bouquet that doesn’t require a vase or a flower arrangement which will either come with a vase, container or flower basket.

Favourite Flowers of the Rich & Famous

Purple hydrangeasPink Roses
Celebrity dressing room demands often make headlines when crazy or outlandish diva requests are revealed. Flowers are among the tamer ‘wants’ but what are the favourite flowers of the rich and famous?

Elton John is renowned for his penchant for floristry. Rumour has it he buys fresh flowers every day. In his dressing room however, it seems he just needs one large arrangement of colourful flowers but no carnations, lilies, chrysanthemums or daisies, thank you very much.

Paris Hilton particularly loves pink we know but it seems that carnations and roses are her favourite flowers.

Jennifer Lopez tops the list of diva demands, requesting that her dressing room is completely white with white furniture, drapes, candles, lilies and roses.

Katy Perry is another celebrity who likes fresh flowers every day, preferably white and purple hydrangeas, pink and white roses or peonies but most definitely not carnations.

Madonna on the other hand does not like hydrangeas as one fan recently found out.

The media hype this caused prompted the Queen of Pop to hit back with a tribute to the flower itself. Here is Madonna’s love letter to the humble hydrangea:
