Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and if you’re asking yourself: “What can I get this year to make the day really special?”, then we have some ideas that you really might like.

Chinese New Year 2012 – Year of the Dragon
The 23rd January sees the start of the Chinese New Year, which, legend has it, should be celebrated predominately using the colour red to drive away bad luck.
In preparation for the New Year homes are given a thorough cleaning to wash away any bad luck from the year before and to invite good luck in. Buying new things for the home also symbolises a fresh start and red decorations are thought to bring good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity to the household.

Children In Need – Christmas table arrangement

Not all employees at eFlorist HQ are florists, some of us (me included) are new to the art. So when 7 places were up for auction for employees to take part in an in-house floristry school (in aid of the BBC’s Children In Need appeal), we jumped at the chance of having a go.
Sarah Clerke, eFlorist’s IT Project Manager and former professional florist, set up the day school to demonstrate how to make a Christmas flower table arrangement.
Top Tip: Make sure you keep the foam topped up with water so it doesn’t dry out. The foliage will most likely last longer than the flowers so simply remove any that are wilting and replace with fresh flowers.

Christmas Flowers – gifts and decorations

Have you been invited to a Christmas party or for dinner on the day itself this year? Not sure what to take the host? Did you know that looking at a bouquet of flowers first thing in the morning increases your energy levels throughout the day?
In a study conducted at Harvard University women were sent either fresh flowers or scented candles. Those that received flowers were less anxious, less depressed and more enthusiastic at work. It’s all to do with an inbuilt attraction we have to vegetation – a primeval signal of food and water.
So sending flowers to loved ones as a get well gesture or to mothers of newborns is a wonderful sentiment and makes an ideal gift. Congratulating someone on a job well done or sending a bouquet of flowers as a sympathy tribute does more than just show how much you care. Flowers at work, in reception or even on your desk creates a relaxing ambience not to mention a lovely fragrant focal point and can even be an ice breaker. Sent anonymously they can create further interest and intrigue not just for the recipient but for the whole office too.
